History about the NATO

Today, I am going to talk about how does Cold War relate to the NATO.
The formation of NATO in 1949 increased tension between the USA and the USSR.  Especially the US troops stationed in West Germany, that make USSR felt threated by this.
In September 1952, the first NATO maritime exercises began. There were 200 ships and over 50000 personnel to practice the defense. There were lots kinds of exercises, like: Exercise Grand Slam, Long step, and naval, amphibious exercises in the Mediterranean Sea ect. So we can see all of the maritime exercises is preparing for any war that is coming from the Warsaw Pact.

French withdrawal
In 1963, the France Government issued that the fleet in Atlantic was no more obeyed by the NATO, which means France can do whatever they want in Atlantic Ocean. Early in 1959, the president of France Charles de Gaulle claimed that France need hers individual power, and Europe is belong to European. He said the Western Europe should be a union, but no USA. It seems like he doesn’t like to be under control by USA or NATO. The France also developed his own nuclear power. At the same period, France also made up the relationship between the Eastern Europe, which is the Warsaw Pact and Soviet.
After 1959, the relationship between France and NATO is getting worse. In 1964, the France Government withdrew the entire officials in NATO. In March 1966, the France Government officially claimed quit the NATO; France withdrew all of the army in NATO, and ban the airspace in France that any planes cannot fly across; and announce withdrew all of France Army in NATO before July, as well as the US army withdrew form France area. In July 1st 1966, The France officially quit the NATO. Therefor, the headquarters moved to the Brussels. The original headquarter of NATO is in Paris.
I think this kind of movement is all about against to the NATO, but especially the USA, maybe the France thought the USA is too powerful that is a time bomb for France. Maybe one day, the USA will try to invade the France, because the USA was too powerful, nobody could stop them growing, except the Warsaw Pact, the Soviet may stop them. And I can tell actually the France was not aim at the NATO, but The USA; the France were saying the Europe should control by Europeans. So France just doesn’t like the USA to participate the polity in Europe, they tried to start the revolution, but nobody is following France.

N.A.T.O

Hi! I am Bowen Wang. I am going to continuous research about NATO.
Why did people establish this kind of organization?
So, there was lots of country sign the Treaty in Brussels. And they agreed that an armed attack against any one of the member of NATO would be considered an attack against them all, the result is all of NATO member's country will fight back the country who attack them.
At first, the NATO is more like a political association. And there was two US supreme commanders control the military structure. The goal of this association is "to keep the Russians out, the Americans in and Germans down." and rival with Warsaw Pact, which formed in 1955. The first NATO Secretary General is Lord Ismay.

How does the decision made in NATO?
All NATO decisions are made by the member courtiers, which should in a same opinion. The North Atlantic Council (NAC) is the main decision-making part in NATO. Each member countries have representatives; they meet together and make decisions. The NAC has the same powers regardless of the formation it meets under. The NAC meets twice a week, every Tuesday for an informal lunch discussion, and every Wednesday for a decision-taking session. The representatives are Head of government, foreign ministers, and defense ministers. Their job is to provide advice on military policy and strategy to NATO’s political leaders.
In my opinion, I think NATO is created by a cold war situation. They are saying that we are here to protect our own member countries; it is actually saying that we are here to prepare the war against Russia, specially the Warsaw Pact. They are just so ready for the war. Until the Warsaw Pact fall apart leads to end the cold war.

The Begin Of The Cold War

The Starting Of The Cold War

Frist, what is cold war? A state of political tension and military rivalry between nations that stops short of full-scale war, especially that which existed between the United States and Soviet Union following World War II. (From Internet Dictionary)
So there was a cold war between USSR and USA, but later, it was a cold war between two totally different organizations, which is “NATO”(North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and Warsaw Pact or Warsaw Treaty.
This is the flag of “NATO”. USA, England, Canada, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Portuguesa and Italia constituted NATO in 1949, April 4th.

This is the symbol of Warsaw Pact. USSR, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and Eastern Germany constituted Warsaw Pact in 1955, May 14th.

So the basic origin of cold war is after the WW2, Communism and capitalism contradict each other; Truman Doctrine is the begin of the cold war. The “Truman Doctrine” was a policy set forth by US president Harry S Truman in a speech on March 12, 1947.
The main idea of “Truman Doctrine” is any communism country will be threat the capitalism country. We have responsibility to stop them threat us. So they decide to help Europe country and prevent revolution happen.
