Hi! I am
Bowen Wang. I am going to continuous research about NATO.
Why did
people establish this kind of organization?
So, there
was lots of country sign the Treaty in Brussels. And they agreed that an armed
attack against any one of the member of NATO would be considered an attack
against them all, the result is all of NATO member's country will fight back
the country who attack them.
At first,
the NATO is more like a political association. And there was two US supreme
commanders control the military structure. The goal of this association is
"to keep the Russians out, the Americans in and Germans down." and
rival with Warsaw Pact, which formed in 1955. The first NATO Secretary General
is Lord Ismay.
How does the
decision made in NATO?
All NATO
decisions are made by the member courtiers, which
should in a same opinion. The North Atlantic Council (NAC) is the main
decision-making part in NATO. Each member countries have representatives; they
meet together and make decisions. The NAC has the same powers regardless of the formation it meets under.
The NAC meets twice a week, every Tuesday for an informal lunch discussion, and
every Wednesday for a decision-taking session. The
representatives are Head of government, foreign ministers, and defense
ministers. Their job is to provide advice on military policy and strategy to
NATO’s political leaders.
In my opinion, I think NATO is
created by a cold war situation. They are saying that we are here to protect our
own member countries; it is actually saying that we are here to prepare the war
against Russia, specially the Warsaw Pact. They are just so ready for the war.
Until the Warsaw Pact fall apart leads to end the cold war.
